Tulsa-Tulane Post-Game Quotes
Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik Opening Statement:
"Good win for us. It took us awhile to get going. Give Tulane credit. I thought they really took it to us the first four minutes of the game. They're difficult. They ran possessions to 32, 33- seconds on the shot clock and then about five to six times they made a shot at the end of the shot clock. So now you start to press a little bit. We don't convert in transition ourselves in the first half. The eight turnovers hurt us, but we settled down, picked up the defense, found a way to win and continue to shoot free throws well, so that's a great sign for us."
Talk about 12 blocks and nine in the second half, you controlled the paint:
"Those guys did a great job. Steven and Kodi were really aggressive. Kodi didn't start well and I think that affects our team big time. We hadn't been blocking shots like we were in the non-conference schedule. They do bring a dimension to us, and it helped. I thought DJ Magley, although not a lot of blocks, he made a lot of plays for us to get us going to. His steal and three-point play was pretty impressive."
Is the team getting more comfortable with Jordan off the ball a little more:
"Well in the last two games he's 8-of-9 from three-point range. That's a big-time stat for our team. Tonight, Scottie, who hasn't been scoring, carried us in the first half with 12 points so that's good for us. Jordan has been incredibly consistent. That's 16 games in a row that he's scored in double-figures, and now he's 8-of-9 from three and he hadn't been shooting the three really well, but with the minutes he has played for the season he's probably up to 38-percent from three-point range."
Tulane Head Coach Ed Conroy
Opening Statement:
""First off, compliment Tulsa. I thought they had a good plan coming in defensively. I think the key to the victory was inside as far as their discipline holding position blocking shots. Credit them. Obviously, I want our guys to make better decisions. We were talking about that throughout the game, but we didn't do that. And when you miss those shots inside, not only do you miss a scoring opportunity, but you put yourself in a really tough position defending in transition. I thought that was the difference in the game in the second half, which resulted in our lower field-goal percentage and a couple of their runs. Credit their big guys, and credit Tulsa with their plan on staying home. Coach (Doug Wojcik) had them well prepared, and they did a good job."
On the second-half adjustments Tulsa made:
"I don't think they changed anything in the second half. You should get into a better rhythm defending as the game goes on, but likewise, our guys should do a better job of making better decisions and feel more comfortable where they were. There were times that we did. We wanted to be able to attack them early in the clock. If it had to be late, then so be it. I thought we had some really good late-clock possessions in the second half where we scored, but in between we just too many where we were just trying to challenge them at the hole."
