Vickers Named C-USA Tennis Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas - Samantha Vickers has been named the Conference USA women's tennis athlete of the week, the league announced today.
The laurel is the first for the sophomore, who opened the dual season with an unblemished 4-0 singles mark and a 3-0 doubles record.
She began the year with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hailey Martin of Oral Roberts, and then went to the Yale Bulldog Invitational and won all three singles matches at the No. 2 position against No. 30 Yale, No. 61 Purdue and Auburn.
She defeated Yale's Blair Seideman 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8), she beat Purdue's Lynda Xepoleas 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, and then she toppled Auburn's Emily Flickinger 6-2, 6-3.
Vickers finished second in the overall singles standings at the Bulldog Invitational with 21 points. Senior teammate Anastasia Erofeeva took home top honors by winning all three of her singles matches from the No. 1 flight, earning a tournament-high 24 points in the process.
Vickers teamed with senior Bonny Davidson to open the year with a perfect 3-0 mark in doubles. They beat ORU's Marizanne Bouwer and Iryna Khatsko 8-0, and then defeated the No. 59-ranked duo, Yale's Annie Sullivan and Amber Li, 8-6.
The two followed that with a convincing 8-4 triumph over Auburn's Flickinger and Olivia Bennett.
Tulsa returns to action this weekend at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Golden Hurricane will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to face N.C. State in the first round at 9 a.m. Jan. 27.
