Tulsa Shuts out North Carolina State, 4-0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Junior Lacey Middlebrooks pitched a complete-game shutout and Samantha Cobb homered to lead the Tulsa softball team to a 4-0 win over North Carolina State in the Aggie Classic at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Golden Hurricane (4-1) broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth inning, and added one each in the sixth and seventh innings. Middlebrooks struck out six batters and scattered six hits and two walks.
Tulsa scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning when junior center fielder Caitlin Everett, who reached on an infield single, scored on a fielder's choice by junior shortstop Samantha Cobb and ensuing error. Cobb went all the way to third base on the play and later crossed the plate on a wild pitch, giving TU a 2-0 lead.
Freshman first baseman Julie Kernen led off the sixth inning with a single, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a throwing error off of a ground ball by freshman right fielder Amy Harrison.
Cobb capped the scoring with her fourth home run of the season, a shot to center field that put the Hurricane lead at 4-0.
Tulsa's second scheduled game on Saturday against UTSA was postponed. The Golden Hurricane is scheduled to play UTSA at 10 a.m. and No. 15 Texas A&M at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting.
