Tulsa Women Finish in Second Place at UALR Golf Classic

Hot Springs, Arkansas - The Tulsa women's golf team finished in second-place at the Sixth Annual UALR Women's Golf Classic on Tuesday. The Hurricane carded a final round 298 to finish the 54-hole event with a score of 898 at the par-72 Diamante Country Club.
Junior Kristina Merkle turned in her sixth top-6 performance in seven tournaments this year as she carded a three-over par 219 to finish in fifth place. Merkle shot a final round 75 today to go with earlier rounds of 73 and 71.
The Hurricane finished one stroke behind team medalist UTEP, who moved up from sixth place to first with a round of 293 today. Middle Tennessee and Eastern Michigan finished in a third place tie with scores of 899, while UALR and Oral Roberts tied for fifth place with totals of 900.
Tulsa seniors Marita Engzelius and Sarah Elliot had Tulsa's best rounds of the day with one-over par 73's. Engzelius finished the tournament in 17th place with a score of 224, while Elliot placed 37th with a three-round total of 229.
Junior Kayla Riede placed 43rd overall with a score of 230 and senior Kamryn Ruffin finished in 47th place at 231 for the tournament.
Tulsa is in action next at the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate, April 6-8, in Oxford, Mississippi.
