Women's Tennis Takes Down Houston, 7-0

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 31-ranked University of Tulsa women's tennis team defeated Conference USA foe Houston 7-0 Saturday morning on the John E. Hoff Courts.

TU (14-3, 2-0 C-USA) won its fourth-straight match overall and its 13th-straight against league opponents. The Cougars (9-7, 0-2) saw their recent three-match win streak come to an end.

The Golden Hurricane opened competition by sweeping the doubles point. Senior Bonny Davidson and sophomore Samantha Vickers topped Laura Ring and Liselot Koenen 8-2 on the second court.

The No. 69-ranked doubles team of seniors Anastasia Erofeeva and Ewa Szatkowska clinched the opening point of the match with an 8-5 triumph over Bryony Hunter and Giorgia Pozzan on the top court.

Junior Michelle Farley and sophomore Maria Sant'Anna made it a clean sweep with an 8-2 win over Charlotte Phillips and Maja Kazimieruk at the third flight.

Farley was the first off court in singles play after she defeated Koenen 6-0, 6-3 at the fifth position. Szatkowska dropped Hunter 6-3, 6-1 at the third flight, and freshman Isaura Enrique clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Phillips on the fourth court.

No. 75-ranked Vickers topped Celia Fraser 6-4, 6-2 at the second position, and No. 83 Erofeeva defeated Pozzan 6-1, 6-4 at the top of the lineup. Sant'Anna closed proceedings with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Kazimieruk on the sixth court.

There were a few milestones reached in the win over the Cougars. Szatkowska moved into a tie for third place in school history with 88 career doubles victories, and she also moved into a tie for sixth in school history with 82 career singles triumphs. Her 170 combined victories are fourth-most in school history.

Farley is now alone in 10th on the school charts with 69 singles victories. She is currently 14-1 in singles play this dual season, and she is on an eight-match win streak.

Erofeeva has won seven of her last eight singles matches, and her and Szatkowska are on an eight-match win streak in doubles. Erofeeva and Vickers are a combined 25-5 in singles this spring.

TU will stay in Houston for the night and face No. 30 Rice at 11 a.m. Sunday morning at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. The Owls are 10-1 at home this season.
