Former Tulsa Standout Brugues To Compete in Australian Open

MELBOURNE - Former Tulsa men's tennis star Arnau Brugues will compete in the first round of the 2013 Australian Open, which kicks off today at Melbourne Park.

Brugues, a native of Barcelona, Spain, will compete against Feliciano Lopez on Court 11. The match will be the third match on the court, as the first match on Court 11 between Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Ruben Bemelmans begins at 6 p.m. CT.

The match will be available to follow online using the ESPN CourtCast application, which is available on ESPN.com. The winner of the Brugues-Lopez match will face either Viktor Troicki or No. 31 Radek Stepanek in the second round.

Brugues, a 2009 Tulsa graduate, is the only player in Golden Hurricane tennis history to earn a No. 1 national singles ranking from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. He also is the program's only four-time All-American and holds the school records in career singles victories with 116 and single-season triumphs with 44 during his senior campaign.
