MANHATTAN, Kan. - Junior outside hitter Valerie El Houssine had a match-high 15 kills and 16 digs as the University of Tulsa volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak snap in a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 22-25, 16-25) loss to Kansas State in Aheam Field House.

"Kansas State is a good team and they force you to be disciplined and execute," TU head coach Steven McRoberts said. "We lost our discipline as the match progressed."

Two other TU players recorded double-doubles. Junior setter Bailey Clampitt added her fifth of the season with 28 assists and 10 digs, while freshman Genesis Viera recorded her third of the season with 23 assists and 10 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Erica Bohannon, the reigning Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, added 12 kills, while middle blocker Carly Boatwright recorded 13 kills, one shy of her career-high, and had a .407 hitting percentage.

"Carly really had a great match tonight and Val had a solid match on the front and back row," McRoberts said.

Senior outside hitter Kellie Culbertson added 14 digs and freshman libero Brooke Berryhill recorded 10 digs.

With the first set tied at six, TU stormed off scoring six of the next seven points and outscored Kansas State 19-8 to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.

The second set was closer as the score was tied at 22. KSU scored three of the next four points to win the set and to tie the match at one.

The third stanza was close as well with the score tied at 19. The Wildcats outscored the Hurricane 6-3 to win the set and to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

"We came out playing really well," McRoberts said. "We had low errors, aggressive serving and solid passing. Then in the second set, we had a great chance at 23-23 to go up two sets to none, but we just didn't execute. We also had a couple of chances in set three, but we were just making too many errors."

Tulsa had an early 2-1 lead in the fourth set, but Kansas State scored four answered points to take a 5-2 lead. KSU then went on a 20-14 run to win the match.

Kansas State was led by Kaitlynn Pelger with 11 kills, Kaite Brand with 38 assists and Brand, Lilla Porubek and Tristan McCarty with 13 digs each.

The Golden Hurricane returns home to host the Golden Hurricane Classic on Friday and Saturday in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

"We are excited to come back home for eight days and we have three big matches this weekend in our tournament," McRoberts said.
