Tulsa's El Houssine Earns Academic Honors

TULSA, Okla. - University of Tulsa senior outside hitter Valerie El Houssine has been name to the Capital One Academic First-Team All-District Volleyball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). El Houssine is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

El Houssine, a senior from Longchamps, Belgium, has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, while pursuing her bachelor's degree in management.

Last spring, El Houssine was a 2014 C-USA Academic Medalist and named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. She was also named to the President's Honor Roll (4.0 GPA) in the Fall of 2013 and Spring of 2014.

The 5'11'' senior has had a standout season for the Hurricane. El Houssine is currently top-10 in the nation in service aces per set (0.52) and top-20 in the country in total service aces (42).

El Houssine is currently second on the team in both kills, with 260 (3.21 kills/set) and digs, with 284 (3.51 digs/set).

El Houssine now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. District 7 includes the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
