PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brooke Berryhill took the first American Athletic Conference Award in program history, as she earned Defensive Player of the Week for her outstanding play last weekend at the Golden Hurricane Classic, as announced by the conference office Monday.

Berryhill, a sophomore from Haslet, Texas, finished the weekend with an astounding 6.86 digs/set.

In the Hurricane home opener against crosstown rival Oral Roberts, the libero finished the match with 24 digs, en route to a 3-1 win over the Golden Eagles.

In the final match of the tournament against McNeese State, Berryhill added another 24-dig performance, this time in just three sets, as the Hurricane swept the visitors from Louisiana to complete a perfect weekend.

Berryhill was named to the All-Tournament Team and was the Co-MVP of the Golden Hurricane Classic.

Tulsa will return home next weekend and will begin conference play with a match this Friday at 7 p.m. against South Florida, before taking on Central Florida at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
