TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's Head Volleyball Coach Ryan Wills has appointed former East Carolina volleyball assistant Eli Sharping to an assistant coaching position, announced today.

"It will be great to have Eli on staff," said Head Volleyball Coach Ryan Wills. "I know he will help continue the tradition of competing for conference championships we have at Tulsa."

Sharping comes to Tulsa after a brief one-year stint at East Carolina University.

"I have known Eli for a couple of years and he is exactly the type of person I want in the program," said Wills. "He will work hard, connect well with the team, and will bring a positive mentality to the gym everyday. Coming directly from ECU, he will have a great understanding of the American Athletic Conference, which will be an asset to out team and will make the transition easier for him. I'm excited to start the recruiting season with Eli as part of our team."

Prior to his time with the Pirates, Sharping was a volunteer assistant at the University of Georgia during the 2013 season.

At Georgia, Sharping was responsible for opponent scouting using Data Volley and Data Video. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a 22-9 record in 2013, the best record by a Georgia team since 1994, while also guiding UGA to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004.

Before his time at Georgia, Sharping spent a year in the Big Ten with the Wisconsin Badgers. With the Badgers, Sharping served as a volunteer assistant coach and helped the team to a 17-win season. Sharping assisted the coaching staff with opponent scouting, video exchange and on-campus recruiting.

"He has spent time in the SEC and Big Ten which will allow him to bring a high level of new volleyball ideas to the table," Wills said.

Sharping, a 2012 graduate from the University of Wisconsin where he earned his Bachelor of Science in neurobiology, also brings a lot of club level success to Tulsa.

He spent five seasons as the head coach of the Capital Volleyball Academy in Madison, Wisconsin, where he coached the 16, 17 and 18 age levels. In just his second season with CVA, Sharping led his team to a ninth place finish at the JVDA National Championships at the 18 Open level, before leading his 2010 team to a fifth place finish at the 18 Open Level AAU National Championships.

As an undergraduate at Wisconsin, Sharping played for the men's club team from 2007-2011 and served as a practice player for the women's varsity team for 2008-2011.

In high school, Sharping was an all-area, all-conference and honorable mention all-state selection at Lake Park High School in Illinois.
