Four Tulsa women's basketball players scored in double figures to give the Golden Hurricane an 85-51 win over Rogers State in an exhibition contest on Friday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
"The group that started each half did a great job on defense," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "They held RSU to eight points in the first quarter and four points in the third quarter. I was pleased with what that starting group was able to do, especially on the defensive end, and we scored a lot of points when they were in the game. The fourth quarter was about getting everyone minutes and experience. In that time our scoring dropped off, but so did our defense."
"I think of the people that weren't talked about returners, Jordyn and Net played well. Those two will have to play well for us to be successful this season. Overall I liked our energy and how hard they played, and how well we played together."
Antoinet Webster paced TU with 19 points, while Ashley Clark added 14 points, and both Kelsee Grovey and Jordyn Holmes posted 12 points. Clark had a team-best eight rebounds, while Liesl Spoerl added seven boards, Ashley Hughes totaled four assists and Crystal Polk had three steals.
Tulsa shot 42-percent from the field, including 33-percent from behind the arc, and 59-percent from the free throw line. TU held RSU to just 31-percent from the field, including 23-percent from three-point range, and 68-percent from the charity stripe.
Lindsey Byfield led the Hillcats with 12 points and Kami Bunch added nine points. Natasha Kindred had six rebounds and Carlye Bohannan recorded five assists.
Tulsa led from beginning to end, outscoring Rogers State in the first three quarters, 72-32, including just four points for the Hillcats in the third frame. In the fourth quarter, RSU outscored TU, 19-13.
The Hurricane had a 56-35 lead in rebounds, a 15-9 advantage in assists, an 11-5 lead in steals and 2-1 advantage in blocks.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, November 6 against Southeastern Oklahoma State in the final preseason game. The game will tipoff at 7:00 pm at the Reynolds Center.
