Tulsa's Bradley Bourgeois was named as the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Juan Sanchez was tabbed as the Rookie of the Year, four were selected to the All-Conference Team and two picked up All-Rookie Team accolades, as announced today by the league office.

Bourgeois, a senior defender from Cypress, Texas, was also selected as a First Team All-Conference performer.  He led TU's backline that ranked third in the conference in shutouts (3), and among the top-four in goals allowed (8) and goals-against average (0.95) in league play.  Bourgeois also scored three goals, the third-most for a TU player this season, and had 12 shots, eight of which were on goal.

"I am really happy for Bradley," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "He had to lead a young group this season.  He led through his performance because he is always a consistent performer.  This is a real honor given the defenders in this league, and I think it is a testament to his all-around abilities.  He is a good passer, he is good in the air, he reads the game well and he is able to score in the air on set pieces."

A forward from Ossining, N.Y., Sanchez was also named to the Second Team All-Conference and to the All-Rookie Team.  He currently has team-bests of six goals and 15 points, while recording three assists.  Sanchez ranks eighth in goals and 10th in points among the league's best.

"Juan played a lot of minutes as a true freshman," McIntosh said.  "He is similar to Bradley in that he is a pretty consistent player, particularly for a freshmen.  He is also an all-around player because he is good at laying the ball off and his movement is good, and he has certainly worked hard to earn this honor."

Geoffree Dee and Jake McGuire were both tabbed to the Second Team All-Conference, while Lesley Nchanji was also an All-Rookie Team honoree.

Dee, a sophomore midfielder from Germantown, Tenn., has the second-most goals and points for the Golden Hurricane this season with four and 12 respectively, while tallying a team-high four assists.  Dee ranks ninth in shots (37) and assists among the league's best.

A junior goalkeeper from Chino Hills, Calif., McGuire has played over 1,330 minutes in goal, picked up 50 saves, earned two shutouts and has a .735 saves percentage, while allowing 18 goals for a 1.22 goals-against average.   He ranks fifth in saves, shutouts and GAA, and sixth in saves percentage in the league.

Nchanji, a freshman midfielder from Yaounde, Cameroon, has two goals and three assists for seven points this season.  He has attempted 15 shots, six of which were on goal.

"I believe all of these guys are deserving of their honors," McIntosh said.  "Geoffrey is one of the best midfield players in the country.  Jake is a very good goalkeeper.  He plays his position well, is a good shot stopper, is good in the air and has good feet.  And Lesley is one of the best freshmen in the league and is another consistent performer.  It is great to see all of these guys earn honors and I am really proud of all of them."
