TULSA, Okla.—The University of Tulsa junior outside hitter Erica Bohannon was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after recording a .333 hitting percentage on 50 kills averaging 5.56 kills per set last weekend, the league office announced Monday.
Bohannon, a native of Coppell, Texas, registered a .353 with 23 kills on 51 attempts, and she also totaled four blocks to help defeat Memphis, 3-1, on Sunday. In addition, she hit an impressive .317 hitting percentage and 27 kills in a five set thriller against Cincinnati that the Golden Hurricane lost Friday.
Bohannon's 23 kills against Memphis put her at 1,187 career kills which was enough to pass Kellie Culbertson (2010-13) for the number three spot on TU's career kill list. The talented outside hitter is 323 kills away from matching Kristien Van Lierop (1997-00) for the number two spot, and is 1,338 kills away matching Tyler Henderson (2009-12) for the all-time leader in career kills for TU. This year, Bohannon ranks second in the conference with 4.07 kills per set.
This is the second career American Athletic Conference award for Bohannon, and the second American Conference Player of the Week award for Tulsa this season.
The Hurricane (12-14, 7-7 American) plays host to Houston at 1:00 p.m. Friday and Tulane at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
