Women's Tennis Takes Down North Texas, 4-1

DALLAS, Texas - The No. 59 University of Tulsa women's tennis team topped the North Texas Mean Green, 4-1, at the SMU Tennis Complex, Sunday afternoon, splitting its weekend road trip in Texas.
The match was moved to Southern Methodist after icy conditions in Denton, Texas forced the two sides to play indoors.
The Golden Hurricane improves to 8-6 on the year, while UNT fall to 3-8 with the loss.
Tulsa got off to a shaky start as the Mean Green took two of the three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead.
From there, the Golden Hurricane refocused its energy to singles play, where they rallied off four-straight points to beat the Mean Green convincingly. Yelena Nemchen got things going, with a quick, 6-0, 6-2, win from the No. 3 spot to even the match. Mahitha Dadireddy followed suit, topping her opponent, Franziska Sprinkmeyer, 6-2, 6-3, to give Tulsa the lead.
Marcelina Cichon was the next Hurricane to win, topping Agustina Valenzuela, 6-2, 6-4, giving TU a 3-1 advantage. The match was clinched after Rongrong Leenabanchong won convincingly against Kamilla Galieva, 6-2, 6-0, from the No. 2 spot.
The Golden Hurricane will now return home to take on Rice next Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
