Women's Tennis Routs Jayhawks, 5-2

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The No. 74 University of Tulsa women's tennis team won the first five points of the afternoon, en route to a 5-2 win over the Kansas Jayhawks, Wednesday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. The win gives TU its 13th straight over KU.

The Golden Hurricane improves to 13-9 on the season, while the loss drops Kansas to 7-11 overall.

The first doubles match was won from the No. 2 position, as TU's Rongrong Leenabanchong and Marcelina Cichon defeated Summer Collins and Smith Hinton, 6-1. The Jayhawks took the No. 3 match to even the score, however, Ksenia Laskutova and Renata Kuricova took the No. 1 doubles match over KU's Madison Harrison and Maria Belen Luduena, 6-3, to capture the early lead.

Tulsa would not look back as Cichon would go on to take the first singles point of the afternoon, 6-2, 6-2, from the No. 3 position. Saana Saarteinen picked up TU's third point of the day, after a win from the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-0, over Rachel McNeely.

Laskutova clinched the match for the Hurricane, after a straight-set win from the No. 1 spot over Luduena, 6-1, 6-4. TU picked up its final point when Kuricova won the No. 6 match, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0, over Lauren Pickens.

Kansas won the final two points after the fact, taking the No. 2 and No. 4 position to close out the match.

The Hurricane will wrap up its 2015 regular season with a showdown at Wichita State on Saturday, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
