TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team reported to campus Sunday afternoon for their first meetings, beginning preparation for the 2015 season.
The Golden Hurricane, under the guidance of second year Head Coach Ryan Wills, welcomed 17 players to camp Sunday. TU begins preseason practices on Monday.
"Today is always one of the best days of the year," Wills said. "The players arrive, and we start to put together the pieces of the puzzle. We are excited to get out on the court for practice tomorrow, to integrate the newcomers and veterans, and to figure out how we can have the best possible team this year. "
Tulsa returns 11 players from its 2014 squad that finished with a 22-9 overall record and a 14-6 mark in American Athletic Conference play. TU also welcomed six newcomers to the roster for 2015.
Junior outside hitter Erica Bohannon, a 2014 first-team all-conference selection, leads the returning players for the Hurricane. Outside hitters Ashley Hooper and Paige Panfil, middle blocker Nicole Newton and defensive specialist Kelsey Parks make up the TU senior class. Defensive specialists Brooke Berryhill and Abigail Cachero, setter Alissa Apecechea and middle blocker Jaime Rahilly round out the junior class. Defensive specialist Ashton Anderson and middle blocker Ebony Carter return as sophomores.
TU welcomed three junior college transfers – outside hitters Trinity Alualu and Rebecca Reeve, and defensive specialist Alyssa LaMont – from Blinn College in Texas. Sophie Bethke is sophomore setter in her first year at Tulsa after transferring from the University of Arkansas. Freshmen include outside hitters Rachel Moore, from Oklahoma City, and Emily Thorson, from The Woodlands, Texas.
The Golden Hurricane begins practice on Monday in preparation for the season opener on Aug. 28 at Nebraska.
