
Tulsa Falls To Arkansas State, 3-0, In Second Match Of Hurricane Classic

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team fell to Arkansas State, 3-0 (22-25, 14-25, 16-25) in its second match of the Hurricane Classic. Senior middle blocker Ashley Hooper led the team offensively with 9 kills, and junior libero Brooke Berryhill led the team defensively with 12 digs. The Golden Hurricane falls to an overall 3-5 record, and Arkansas State progresses to an overall 6-3 record.
In the initial frame was the most competitive of the match with the score tied late in the set at 15-15 and at 16-16. ASU would take a two point lead at 22-20, and Tulsa would go on to score two more points before the Red Wolves ended the frame at 25-22. Offensively both teams were comparable with Tulsa having a .273 hitting percentage, and ASU having a .294 hitting percentage in the frame.
In the second stanza the Hurricane trailed early with the score at 8-3. Tulsa would make a run bringing the score within three at 11-8, ASU. TU then began trailing 16-9 before ASU went on to end the stanza at 25-14 giving them a 2-0 match advantage going into intermission.
In the final frame the Hurricane was behind early 7-3, and then rallied back bringing the score within one point at 11-10, ASU lead. Tulsa fell behind 19-13 before ASU ended the set 25-16, and the match 3-0.
Tulsa has an opportunity to improve on its record against Southern Illinois tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynold Center.
