Tulsa Volleyball Travels to Tuscaloosa to Compete in Bama Bash

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala. this weekend to compete in the Bama Bash where they will play College of Charleston on Friday, Sept. 4 at 2:30 p.m. and Alabama at 7 p.m. The Golden Hurricane takes on Southern Miss the next day at 5 p.m.

Tulsa captured its first win of the 2015 season against Grand Canyon last weekend at the Nebraska Invitational. Junior outside hitter Erica Bohannon recorded 39 kills, and Brooke Berryhill carried the load defensively tallying 40 digs in the tournament. Berryhill was one of seven players named to the Nebraska Invitational All-Tournament Team. Other players rose to the occasion like junior college transfer Rebecca Reeve who totaled 25 kills, and a pair of senior middle blockers, Ashley Hooper and Nicole Newton, who had 14 kills each.

When Tulsa and Alabama play Friday, the match will reunite the two head coaches who were previously on the same staff. From 2006-07, Tulsa Head Volleyball Coach Ryan Wills was a student coach under Ed Allen at TU. After spending two years at UCLA as a volunteer coach, Wills would rejoin the Tulsa staff as a full-time assistant for Allen in 2010. When Allen was named the Alabama head coach following the 2010 season, Wills made the trip to Tuscaloosa with Allen and spent three years as an assistant before returning to his alma mater as head coach in 2014. This will be the first ever match between Tulsa and Alabama.
