Tulsa Women’s Tennis Puts Together Perfect Opening Day at Red and Blue Challenge

DALLAS, Texas – The University of Tulsa Women's Tennis team put together a perfect opening day at the Red and Blue Challenge on Friday, picking up three doubles wins in the morning before winning all seven singles matches in the afternoon.
Ksenia Laskutova and Martina Okalova started doubles play off with a 7-6 win over Loyola Marymount's Elvira Juravliova and Jessica Perez before Marcelina Cichon and Mahitha Dadireddy defeated Siobhan Anderson and Julia Norlin 6-3. Vera Ploner and Martha Matoula capped off the unbeaten day in doubles play with a 6-2 victory over Dorottya Jonas and Milka Genkova of Wyoming.
In singles play, Tulsa won five of seven matches in straight sets, beginning with a Laskutova 6-2, 6-4 win over LMU's Perez. Matoula and Dadireddy both picked up straight set wins over players from LMU before Cichon put together a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over LMU's Camila Tumosa. Vera Ploner needed three sets against Norlin after dropping the first 6-4, taking the second set in extras before winning the third 6-4.
The freshman pair of Okalova and Elzbieta Iwaniuk found success against players from Liberty as Okalova bested Anna Dollar 6-4, 6-2 before Iwaniuk rallied back after losing the first set 6-4 to win 6-1, 6-3 in the final two sets.
Play at the Red and Blue Challenge continues this morning and will wrap up on Sunday.
