Kendrian Elliott recorded her first collegiate double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, but the Tulsa women's basketball team dropped an 83-80 decision to Arkansas State on Tuesday night at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark.  TU fell to 3-6 on the season while ASU moved to 1-6 overall.

"I thought Kendrian was really solid," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "ASU has four guards around the post and we felt like Kendrian would get the better of their post players and she did."

Tatyana Perez totaled 14 points, while Erika Wakefield added 13 points, and Alexis Gaulden and Shug Dickson both scored nine.  Gaulden almost had her first career double-double as well as she also pulled down 12 rebounds.  Elliott had three blocks and Perez had three steals in the contest.

TU shot 42-percent from the field, 33-percent from three-point range and 76-percent from the free throw line, while ASU shot 42-percent from the field, 56-percent from behind the arc and 85-percent from the charity stripe.

The Red Wolves had a 42-40 lead in rebounds, while the Golden Hurricane had a 15-12 lead in assists, a 5-2 advantage in blocks and an 8-5 lead in steals.

"We played pretty even with from the field and rebounding wise, but the difference was at the free throw line where they make 18 and we made 10," Mossman said.  "It came down to our guards not being able to defend the dribble drive and us committing fouls and putting them on the line."

After getting off to a slow start with a 4-4 score with five minutes ticked off the clock and TU shooting just 25-percent to start the game, the Golden Hurricane scored 17 points to close out the frame with a 21-14 advantage and were shooting 50-percent.

The Red Wolves came back in the second quarter and outscored Tulsa, 29-17, to take a 43-38 advantage into the break.  After shooting just 29-percent in the first frame, ASU shot 61-percent from the field, including 60-percent from behind the arc, compared to TU's 33-percent from the field and 42-percent from three-point range in the second period.

The two teams battled nearly point-for-point in the third quarter as ASU had a 66-60 lead to end the frame.  TU shot 50-percent in the quarter, better than Arkansas State's 42-percent, but ASU was 7-of-8 from the free throw line compared to Tulsa's 2-of-2.

The Red Wolves inched ahead to an 11-point lead, 77-66, with 5:44 left to play in the contest, but Tulsa battled back and pulled to within one point, 81-80, with 1:10 remaining.  ASU hit a pair of free throws to make it 83-80 with just 18.7 seconds to play for the final score as TU was unable to make a basket in the final seconds.

Arkansas State was led by Jada Ford with 23 points off the bench, while Dominique Oliver added 16 points and Starr Taylor scored 11.  Tahlon Hopkins had 11 rebounds for the Red Wolves.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, December 11 at #20 Oklahoma.  Game time is set for 2:00 pm at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla.
