
Tulsa Men’s Tennis Suffer Road Loss to New Mexico Sunday Afternoon

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Sunday afternoon, The University of Tulsa men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 road loss to the New Mexico Lobos at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium. The No. 18 Golden Hurricane falls to 14-11 overall, while New Mexico improves to 14-13 overall.
New Mexico controlled doubles play as Hayden Sabatka and Bart Van Leijsen (No. 1) defeated Matthew Kirby and Okkie Kellerman, 6-3, to take a 1-0 doubles point lead. Jorge Escutia and Ricky Hernandez-Tong (No. 3) of New Mexico defeated Majed Kilani and Juan Matias Gonzalez, 7-6, to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 match lead going into singles play.
In singles play, the Lobos maintained momentum as Bart Van Leijsen (No. 2) defeated Juan Matias Gonzalez, 7-5, 6-3, to take a 2-0 match lead. Jorge Escutia (No. 3) gave New Mexico a 3-0 match lead when he defeated Dylan McCloskey, 6-4, 6-3. The Hurricane battled back as Majed Kiani (No. 4) defeated Ricky Hernandez-Tong, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, to bring the match score to 3-1. Hayden Sabatka (No. 1) defeated Or Ram-Harel, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, to clinch the New Mexico match victory. TU's Francois Kellerman (No. 5) defeated Michael Tran, 6-3, 7-6, before Dominic Bechard (No. 6) defeated Rodolfo Jauregui, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, to bring the final match score to 4-3.
The Hurricane returns to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Friday, April 15, to take on USF at 6:00 p.m., before taking on UCF on Sunday, April 17, at 1:00 p.m. in the last scheduled match of the regular season.
