
Tulsa Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 17 USF, 4-0, in American Athletic Conference Championship

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Tulsa's 23rd-ranked and second-seeded men's tennis team lost to 17th- ranked and first-seeded USF, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon to claim runner-up in the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship at the Dunavant-Wellford Tennis Center in Memphis, Tenn. The Golden Hurricane finished the tournament with an overall 17-13 record, while the Bulls improve to 20-8 overall.
USF's 34th-ranked doubles team Vadym Kalyuzhnyy and Sasha Gozun recorded a 6-2 win over senior Matthew Kirby and freshman Okkie Kellerman (No. 1) to begin doubles play. The Bulls clinched the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead going into singles play when Roberto Cid and Ignacio Gonzalez Mun topped senior Carlos Bautista and freshman Carlos Bautista (No. 3), 6-3.
In singles play, Sasha Gozun defeated sophomore Juan Matias Gonzalez (No. 2), 7-5, 6-3, to extend the match lead to 2-0. USF continued to execute as Vadym Kalyuzhnyy recorded a 6-2, 7-5 win over senior Dylan McCloskey (No. 6). The Bulls clinched the match victory when Peter Bertran topped senior Carlos Bautista (No. 3), 6-4, 7-5.
