The University of Tulsa rowing program named Arielle Tillou as Assistant Coach and Operations Coordinator, filling a newly created position. Tillou previously served as a graduate assistant for two years (2014-16).
"I am thrilled that we were able to add Arielle to our staff," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "In many ways she completes our staff picture by filling in a needed missing piece. She brings the leadership, organization and people skills she learned from being a classroom teacher to our team, and has already made a major impact as our director of operations. I am very happy we could keep her here, and we are all looking forward to how she learns and grows in her coaching role at Tulsa."
Tillou was a four-year letterwinner and member of the Varsity 8+ at Tulsa. She was selected to the 2012 All-Conference USA team, helped the Varsity 8+ earn fifth-place marks at the 2011 and 2012 C-USA Championships, captured the 2008 Midwest Intercollegiate Rowing Championship gold medal in the Eight, and helped claim the Lawless Cup three times.
Tillou was a learn-to-row instructor for the Tulsa Youth Rowing Association before serving as the Varsity Girls' coach from 2012-14. She helped coach the Junior 4+ to a first-place finish at the 2012 Wichita Frostbite and a second-place mark at the 2013 Oklahoma City Invitational. Tillou also coached the Varsity 4x to a first-place finish at the 2014 Oklahoma City Invitational and the Lightweight 4+ to a third-place mark at the 2014 Central Youth Rowing Championships.
She holds a US Rowing Level II coaching certification.
A native of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Tillou earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 2012 and her master's degree in educational studies in 2016, both from Tulsa.
