
Tulsa Women's Tennis Begins Play at OU Invite

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Women's Tennis team won four of five singles matches at the OU Invite on Friday afternoon, adding three doubles victories in five tries on the day.
Rongrong Leenabanchong opened up first flight play with a come from behind win over SMU's Dasha Sharapova, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1).
Martha Matoula followed in the second flight with a win in straight sets over Reagan Collins of Texas Tech 7-5, 6-4. Mahitha Dadireddy also found success in the second flight, beating Oklahoma's Brooke Withrow in the first set, 7-5, before a dominant 6-0 win in the second to take the match.
In round robin singles, Elzbieta Iwaniuk defeated Withrow 7-5, 6-4, before Vera Ploner fell to Kansas State's Palma Juhasz 6-4, 6-0.
Iwaniuk and Martina Okalova fell in the first TU doubles match of the day to Tanaporn Thongsing and Ting-Ya Hsu of Wichita State, 6-1.
The tandem of Matoula and Leenabanchong opened doubles play with a 6-3 loss to Mini Fotopoulos and Christiana Brigante of Oklahoma before bouncing back with a perfect 6-0 win over the North Texas duo of Alexis Thoma and Ivana Babic in the consolation semifinal.
Dadireddy and Ploner won both of their doubles matches, defeating OU's Withrow and Simran Sethi in the first round of the second flight bracket, 6-3. The duo responded with another win in the semifinals against SMU's Mary Wright and Sharapova to earn themselves a spot in the finals on Saturday morning, 7-5.
Play at the OU Invite will continue tomorrow morning before wrapping up on Sunday.
