TU Showcases Basketball Teams at Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Saturday

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa men's and women's basketball programs showcased their respective teams at the Blue-Gold Scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
 
Head coach Matilda Mossman and the TU women's squad scrimmaged first by playing two 10-minute halves that resulted in a 25-25 tie between the Gold and Blue teams.
 
The Blue team was led by seven points from sophomore forward Kendrian Elliott, who went 3-for-6 from the field and knocked down a 3-pointer. The Blue team shot 45.8-percent and also got six points from junior forward Crystal Polk.
 
Meanwhile, freshman guard Rebecca Lescay paced the Gold team with a game-high eight points to go along with a pair of assists. Sophomore forward Addison Richards added seven points in 15 minutes.
 
The Blue team had a 12-11 advantage at halftime and the Gold team outscored the Blue 14-13 over the final 10 minutes.
 
The Golden Hurricane men's squad followed with a scrimmage of two 12-minute halves, which saw the Blue team take a 53-43 victory over the Black team.
 
Head coach Frank Haith watched as the Blue squad shot 50-percent, including 59.1-percent in the second half, and pound the ball inside with 22 points in the paint. Three players scored in double-figures for Blue, led by sophomore forward Martins Igbanu's 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Junior forward DaQuan Jeffries added 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal, while Corey Henderson Jr. added 10 points, aided by a pair of 3-pointers.
 
Freshman guard Elijah Joiner led all scorers with 15 points for the Gold team behind a 4-of-7 effort from behind the arc. He was joined in double-figures by sophomore guard Curran Scott, who finished with a dozen points and four rebounds.
 
The defenses shined early as Blue held a slim 22-19 edge after the first half before expanding the lead down the stretch for the 10-point win.
 
The TU women's squad will host Arkansas-Fort Smith at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1 in its lone exhibition game prior to the start of the 2017-18 campaign. Meanwhile, the men open exhibition play at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
