Tulsa Splits Pair to Round Out Blue Grey National Tennis Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Tulsa Women's Tennis team split a pair of matches to round out play at the Blue Grey National Tennis Classic as they shutout Utah 4-0 before falling to No. 47-ranked Texas 5-0.

Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula combined for a 6-2 win over Utah's Taylor Calton and Jena Cheng in the No. 2 slot, while Ksenia Laskutova and Martina Okalova dropped a 6-2 decision to Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley in the No. 1 position to knot up the doubles point. Marcelina Cichon and Mahitha Dadireddy recorded a 7-6 win over Alexia Petrovic and Whitney Turley to put TU up 1-0 heading into singles play.

Leenabanchong secured a point for Tulsa at the No. 2 spot in the lineup with a straight sets win over Brianna Turley 6-4, 6-0 for one of TU's three singles points in the early match. Okalova earned a straight sets win of her own, defeating Jena Cheng 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 while Matoula won her sixth straight singles match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Calton at No. 5.

In the second match of the day and third of the weekend, Texas took the doubles point from Tulsa with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots

In singles play against the Longhorns, Cichon held late lead over Poluta in the first set 6-5 before a Poluta rally saw the Longhorns' singles player pick up a 7-6 first set win and a 6-2 win in the second. Texas' No. 35-ranked Bianca Turati defeated Laskutova 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot while Mahitha Dadireddy fell to Petra Granic 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 as the Longhorns secured the win.

The Hurricane are back in action on March. 3 when they host Purdue at 5 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
