Tulsa Wins Fifth Straight, Defeats USF 4-2 on the Road

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tulsa Women's Tennis won their fifth straight match on Thursday afternoon as they defeated USF 4-2 at the USF Varsity Tennis Complex. The No. 28-ranked Golden Hurricane improved to 15-4 with five dual matches remaining on their schedule before returning to Tampa for The American Athletic Conference Tournament.
 
The Hurricane picked up a much needed doubles point to take a 1-0 lead as Ksenia Laskutova and Mahitha Dadireddy picked up a 6-2 win over Juliana Cardoso and Olga Martinez before USF won at the No. 3 doubles position, setting up the deciding match at the No. 2 position. Martha Matoula and Rongrong Leenabanchong came through for TU, picking up their team-leading 18th doubles win of the year in a 6-2 victory over Brooke Lashway and Vera Bessonova.
 
Leenabanchong followed by picking up a singles point to put Tulsa ahead 2-0 in a straight sets win over Juliana Cardoso 6-2, 6-2.
 
Marcelina Cichon moved to 19-4 in singles play on the year with her fifth straight win, this one coming at the No. 6 position in a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lashway as the Hurricane extended their lead to 3-0.
 
The Bulls pulled within one after back-to-back match wins in singles play as USF's Ana Roman defeated Laskutova at the No. 1 spot prior to Nicole Dzenga picking up the second and final point for USF against Okalova.
 
Matoula clinched a Hurricane victory in a three set win at the No. 5 spot, improving to 23-4 on the year with her 10th straight triumph. The sophomore dropped the first set 6-3 before storming back to take the next two, dropping just three games while taking the final two sets 6-1, 6-2.
 
Tulsa will return to the court on Saturday at 4 p.m. against UCF in Orlando, Fla.
