Tulsa’s Lightweight 4+ Finishes Seventh at 2017 IRA National Championship

6/4/2017 1:49:00 PM | Rowing

The Tulsa Lightweight 4+ earned a seventh-place finish in the Grand Final, while the Lightweight 8+ finished second in the Petite Final at the 2017 IRA National Championship Regatta at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., to conclude the season.

"It wasn't what we were hoping for, but we picked up a lot of speed over the season compared to previous years so I am happy with that," Head Coach of Lightweight Rowing Rodney Mott said.  "We had a good middle of the season, but the speed didn't carry over to the end of the season. Today's results don't reflect the strides we made as a team this year."

Lindsey Smith, Abigail Elggren, Lindsay Crute, Stephanie Call and Nichole Backus raced the Four to a seventh-place time of 7:54.74, while Stanford (7:20.91) earned the top slot.

In the Lightweight 8+, Sam Barber, Jennifer Casson, Sophia Camara, Julia Herrel, Amy Pitzel, Sydney Pirkle, Madeline Oleksiak, Audrey Brown and Phoebe Mulligan posted a time of 6:56.60 in the Petite Final behind MIT (6:49.79).
