Horsfall has Record Day as Tulsa Drops Four Setter to Tulane

TULSA, Okla. – Taylor Horsfall posted a career-high 30 digs against the Tulane Green Wave on Sunday, at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tulsa dropped its first conference match of the season, 3-1.
The first set was tied at 5-5, before the Green Wave took a 12-7 lead. The Golden Hurricane kept battling but was unable to make the comeback, as Tulane took the first set, 25-18. Taylor Horsfall and Lindsey Ledyard led the defense with five and four digs, respectively. Emily Thorson and Callie Cook paced TU with three kills each. Ledyard posted six assists.
The second set was a hard fought battle that saw extra volleyball and a scored tied at, 25-25. Tulane managed to win the second set, 27-25. In the second set there were 11 ties and five lead changes. Thorson and Emily Hubbard each notched three kills. Mariah Pardo assisted on six kills to lead the way for TU. Defensively, the tandem of Hubbard and Ebony Carter produced a total of six assisted blocks, as each recorded three assisted blocks.
After the Green Wave took a 15-14 lead, the Golden Hurricane rallied and rattled off five unanswered points and took a 19-15 lead. The Hurricane continued to roll as it took the third set, 25-18. Despite the final score for the set, there were 10 ties and seven lead changes. Carter led the attack with four kills. Horsfall came up huge, with nine digs. Pardo produced six assists while Ashton Anderson added four. Cook racked up four block assists.
The Green Wave took the fourth set, 25-17, after it took six of the last seven points. Thorson tallied four kills, while Cook added three. Anderson paced TU with seven assists. Defensively, Carter added two block assists and Horsfall accumulated 12 digs.
Lexie Douglas led Tulane with 13 kills. Justine Bowers and Jenna Ibieta came up with 20 and 17 assists, respectively. Kaylie McHugh had 27 digs.
As a team, the Green Wave tallied 79 digs, 48 kills, 44 assists, and eight total team blocks.
The Golden Hurricane attack amassed 47 kills and 43 assists. The Hurricane defense was staunch as it had 74 digs and nine total team blocks.
Thorson achieved her fifth double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Pardo tallied 19 assists to led TU, while Anderson and Ledyard each produced 11 assists. Horsfall was an unstoppable force on defense, as she recorded a new career-high with 30 digs.
With the loss, Tulsa falls to 7-7 overall and 1-1 in The American. The Golden Hurricane return to action Friday, Sept. 29, as the travel to Cincinnati.
