Hurricane Drops 4-1 Decision Against No. 10 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Golden Hurricane (5-2) earned the doubles point, after winning two of the three doubles matches. Michigan (3-0) won four singles matches, to win the match 4-1, Sunday, at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Tulsa tandem of Tamara Kupkova and Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg picked up the first doubles victory against Mira Ruder-Hook and Kara Hall, 6-2, in the No. 3 doubles match. At the No. 2 doubles position, Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner knocked off Alyvia Jones and Chiara Lommer, 6-3. The Hurricane held a 1-0 lead after doubles play.
In the No. 6 singles match, Alex Najarian defeated Van Rensburg, 6-2 and 6-2, to tie the overall match at 1-1. The No. 33 ranked singles player, Kate Fahey bested Ksenia Laskutova, 6-1 and 6-2, at the No. 1 singles position and gave the Wolverines a 2-1 lead.
Ruder-Hook took on Ploner at the No. 4 singles position. Ruder-Hook knocked off Ploner, 6-3 and 6-3, which gave Michigan a 3-1 lead. Lommer, the No. 74 ranked player, faced Okalova, the No. 122 ranked player, in the No. 2 singles match. Lommer won both sets by the score of 6-2, and clinched the match for the Wolverines, 4-1.
Tulsa falls to 5-2 on the season. The Golden Hurricane returns to action on Friday, Feb. 2, as it travels to Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Hurricane will battle the Louisville Cardinals in a neutral site contest with first serves scheduled for 2 p.m.
