IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Tulsa women's tennis tandem of Vera Ploner and Martina Okalova defeated Missouri's Mackenzy Middlebrooks/Ellie Wright, 6-4, 6-1, en route to becoming the ITA Central Regional Doubles Champions on Tuesday.

The victory marks the fourth duo to achieve the feat in program history. Okalova and Ploner are the first Golden Hurricane Central Region doubles champions since Samantha Vickers/Isaura Enrique in 2012.

The first set came out in a back-and-forth manner, with TU edging out Middlebrooks and Wright on strong play at the net, 6-4.

The second set played out more convincingly, as Okalova and Ploner overwhelmed the duo from Missouri with a strong service game to clinch the match, 6-1.

The team gets a couple weeks to recuperate, as head coach Dean Orford's squad resumes fall play at the SMU Invite, scheduled to take place from November 2-4.
