Tulsa Volleyball Falls to SMU on Sunday, 3-0

DALLAS, Texas – The University of Tulsa volleyball team (14-7, 6-3) dropped its match to SMU (8-11, 5-4) on the road on Sunday, 3-0.
The back-and-forth first set ended on an SMU kill, with the Mustangs taking the opening frame, 25-14. The Golden Hurricane struggled to find its rhythm, despite Elyse Savadove's three kills on seven swings.
TU managed to rebound in in the second stanza, but fell in a close set, 26-24. Senior OH Emily Thorson took over offensively, putting down six kills in the frame, despite the Mustangs clinching the set.
In the third and final frame, the Golden Hurricane managed to extend the match, but ultimately fell to SMU, 28-26. Callie Cook paced the Hurricane with five kills in the set on a solid .667 hitting percentage.
Despite the loss, junior DS/L Taylor Horsfall racked up 29 digs in the contest, with the 29 digs marking her third-highest of 2018. As a team, Tulsa had 40 kills, to go along with 10 blocks in the match.
Head coach Ryan Wills' squad returns home next weekend for AAC matches against Temple on Friday, Oct. 26 and UConn on Sunday, Oct. 28.
At home this season, Tulsa is a solid 8-1 in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
