Hurricane Athletics to Honor Allan Trimble at Athletic Events on Nov. 1-3

TULSA, Okla. –– Longtime Jenks High School educator and football coach Allan Trimble and the Trimble Strong Foundation has teamed up with The University of Tulsa athletics department in trying to increase awareness of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and encourage individuals to live with a purpose.

ALS, historically known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

In addition to Tulsa's Homecoming, the weekend of November 1-3 has been designated as the Trimble Strong Foundation Athletic Weekend. Along with the many Homecoming festivities planned, the Trimble Strong Foundation will be centered around three Tulsa Golden Hurricane athletic events. Tulsa and surrounding communities will have an opportunity to help support coach Trimble's foundation at each event.

The Tulsa women's basketball team tips off the weekend on Thursday night, Nov. 1, with an exhibition contest against USAO (7:00 p.m.), followed by a Friday night men's basketball exhibition game against Northeastern State (6:00 p.m.) and Saturday's Homecoming football game against UConn to be kicked off at 6:00 p.m.

Admission to both basketball games is FREE. Donations will be taken at entry gates to benefit the Trimble Strong Foundation and ALS. For Saturday's football game, $5 from every ticket sold by calling 918.631.GoTU (4688) and referencing Trimble Strong will benefit the Trimble Strong Foundation. Beginning Monday, Oct. 29, game tickets can be purchased at the Jenks High School Athletic Department Sharp Center (3rd Floor), 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; Gorfam Athletics (5151 S. Mingo Road), 10 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; the Wired Coffee House (800 W. Mission Street, Broken Arrow), 6:00 a.m.-6 p.m.; Roofscapes Exterior (15010 S. Grant Street, Bixby), 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; as well as at the Donald W. Reynolds Center Athletic Ticket Office on the TU campus, Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Trimble Strong Foundation has four basic goals: (1) provide leadership scholarships for local students; (2) benefit international education; (3) support inner-city communities; and (4) assist with adoption and family support.

Trimble was diagnosed with ALS in June 2016. He continued coaching the Jenks High School football team through the 2017 season and announced his retirement in April 2018.

In 22 seasons as the Jenks High School football coach, Trimble's teams recorded a 242-41 mark and won 13 state championships. His Trojan program had state title streaks of six consecutive seasons (1996-2001) and four consecutive seasons. His teams averaged 11 wins per season and 41.6 points per game, while also winning 17 district titles and compiled a 134-12 district record. Trimble coached 72 first-team all-state selections and was the Tulsa World's state coach of the year four times.

Trimble, who began his head coaching career at Jenks in 1996, was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame this past August and in January received the 2017 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Power of Influence Award.

"This is a win-win for the foundation and The University of Tulsa athletic teams. We hope that we're able to bring awareness to the foundation that helps people, as well as bring the community to the TU campus to help root on our TU teams," said Trimble.  "Our goal is to raise $10,000 over the weekend. With the generosity of the TU community, these funds will help support the local ALS and Trimble Strong Initiatives."

"Coach Trimble is fighting this horrible disease, but as usual with Allan Trimble, it's not about him. He is putting all his energy into helping others less fortunate and those in need with the Trimble Strong Foundation. I truly hope that our community will come out to a basketball game and the football game next weekend to honor coach Trimble," said Tulsa football coach Philip Montgomery. "There's no question I want to see H.A. Chapman Stadium filled for our football team, but on Saturday, Nov. 3, it's more than the game. We have an opportunity to support a great foundation and recognize a man that continues to give so much to our community."

The Trimble Strong Foundation exists for the purpose of transforming people from their current position spiritually, emotionally, physically professionally and financially. The foundation brings faith, hope and love into the lives of people they interact with in everyday life.
