Golden Hurricane Sweeps Houston on Senior Day

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball squad (18-9, 10-5) swept Houston (16-14, 3-12), 3-0, on Senior Day inside the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Sunday.
At home this season, the Golden Hurricane finishes 2018 at a lofty 11-2 inside the Reynolds Center.
Junior DS/L Taylor Horsfall moved up to No. 3 in school history in digs with 18 in the victory. Horsfall has accumulated 1,596 in her time with the Golden Hurricane, surpassing Evyn Bandy, now Evyn Wills, wife of head coach Ryan Wills, who finished her career with 1,590.
Tulsa started the match out strong, with seniors Rachel Moore and Emily Thorson pacing the team in kills in the set on their dedicated day. Moore struck six kills, while Thorson tallied five kills, as TU secured the first frame, 25-20.
Houston rallied back in the second set, but the Golden Hurricane edge out the Cougars in the frame, 25-23. Horsfall racked up seven digs on the back line for Tulsa, while Thorson and sophomore Callie Cook added three kills each.
The Golden Hurricane dominated the third and final set, going on a 5-0 run early in the stanza to clinch the match, 25-18. In the final frame, Horsfall added another six digs to her total, while Cook stepped up offensively with four kills on five swings.
Thorson finished the match with nine kills, while Moore paced the Hurricane with 10 in the win. Thorson remains No. 6 TU all-time in kills with 1,099, needing 18 more to surpass Hannah Stout, who finished with 1,116.
As a squad, Tulsa finished the match with 39 kills, 54 digs and four service aces in the sweep. Junior Mariah Pardo tallied her team-high 12 double-double of the season, adding 26 assists and 11 digs.
With Wills' bunch's 2018 home slate finished, it travels North to take on UConn on Nov. 16 and Temple on Nov. 18, with a Havoc in the Heartland midweek matchup at Wichita State looming to round out the regular season on Nov. 21.
