TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team and head coach Ryan Wills have announced the addition of two new members to the class of 2019 on Wednesday.
"We are excited to add this class to our team next year," Wills said. "They will continue to help this program build the right way. They are great athletes, students and teammates and they will represent TU well because they are both winners."
Kayley Cassaday is the first signee of the 2019 TU squad. Cassaday hails from Overland Park, Kansas. Cassaday becomes a member of the Golden Hurricane from Blue Valley North High School, where she owns the school record in both kills and total attempts.
During her time at Blue Valley North, Cassaday was a three-time All-State honoree, three-time AVCA Kansas Player of the Week and the Eastern Kansas League MVP in 2018.
A four-year letterwinner and starter, Cassaday was a Evelyn Gates Award Finalist in her senior season, to go along with being named the Prep Volleyball National Player of the Week once.
As a member of the Mustangs, she accumulated a school record 1,571 kills and 3,880 attempts, to go along with 886 digs, 108 service aces, 169 blocks and a solid .299 hitting percentage.
The second and final early signee for the Golden Hurricane is Lily Heyne, a native of Omaha, Nebraska. Heyne joins Tulsa from Skutt Catholic High School, where she is a four-time class B state champion.
While in high school, Heyne was named an Under Armour Third Team All-American, a two-time River Cities First Team All-Conference honoree and four-time Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald Class B All-State nominee.
She racked up a lofty 1,115 kills, 172 blocks, 431 digs and 93 service aces, to go along with a 146-17 record in her time with the SkyHawks.
"Kayley and Lily are both successful outside hitters in high school and club that will step in and make our gym better," Wills added. "We expect both of them to help us play volleyball at a higher level over the next few years."
The Tulsa volleyball squad is on pace for the best season under Wills' five-year tenure, sitting at 18-9 and 10-5 in the American Athletic Conference with three regular-season matches remaining.
