Tulsa Women’s Tennis Finds Success on Day One of Red and Blue Challenge

DALLAS, Texas – The University of Tulsa women's tennis squad wrapped up the first day of the Red and Blue Challenge, hosted by SMU, on Friday, as the team earned seven singles victories and a doubles win on the first day in Texas.
The lone doubles victory came as the first match of the day, as ITA Central Regional doubles champions Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner dispatched of Wyoming's Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg, 6-0.
In singles, Tulsa took on conference foes Wichita State. Okalova continued her momentum into her singles match, defeating Fatima Bizhukova, 7-6, 2-1 ret. Martha Matoula would soon follow, taking down the Shockers' Marta Bellucco, 6-2, 7-6.
Ploner would continue the doubles momentum as well, handling Alexandra Lazarova, 6-2, 6-4. Newcomer Ariana Capogrosso earned the fourth singles victory of the day for the Golden Hurricane, edging out Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva in a close match, 7-5, 6-4.
Freshman Manon Meulenberg would follow suit, defeating Wichita State's Ting-Ya Hsu with ease, 7-5, 6-1. The final two singles victories came against UT-Arlington, as newcomers Marina Davtyan earned a win, 6-4, 2-6, 10-5, and Megan Hopton, 7-5, 6-2.
