Final Notes
The University of Tulsa volleyball team wrapped up its fifth season under head coach Ryan Wills with a 19-12 record, an 11-7 mark en route to a fourth-place American Athletic Conference finish and the team's first postseason bid since 2013.
The 19 wins marks the third time in Wills' five years at the helm the team has reached 19 victories in a season. The squad finished ahead of preseason projections at fourth overall in the AAC, despite being picked sixth to kick off the 2018 campaign.
The Golden Hurricane played past the regular season for the first time since 2013 and the first time under Wills, earning a bid to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. In the opening round, TU fell to a tough North Texas squad in Denton, Texas, 3-1.
Three Tulsa volleyball student-athletes earned all-conference laurels for the 2018 season: senior Emily Thorson (First Team), junior Taylor Horsfall (Second Team) and senior Rachel Moore (Second Team). The three selections marks the first time the Golden Hurricane has had more than two honorees on the all-conference list since 2013, and the first time in Wills' five-year tenure.
In addition to the all-conference team, Tulsa made history in the American Athletic Conference, taking down Wichita State on Sept. 29, 2018, in a 3-2 thriller. The win against WSU was Tulsa's first since 1998, and snapped the Shockers' 22-0 conference record since joining the American in 2017.
