Tulsa Runs Away with a 6-1 Victory Against the Bulls

TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Hurricane put on a show at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Sunday afternoon, as TU claimed five singles match victories and 2 doubles match victories. Tulsa (11-2) knocked off South Florida (2-7), 6-1.

Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner faced Nicole Dzenga and Vanja Klaric in the No. 2 doubles match. After starting the match down 2-0, Okalova and Ploner stormed back to claim a 4-3 lead. Okalova and Ploner went on to win 6-3. 

Ksenia Laskutova and Martha Matoula jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, in the No. 1 doubles match against Jessica Cortes Chaves and Juliana Cardoso. Laskutova and Matoula won the match 6-3. TU took a 1-0 lead into singles play.

The No. 95 ranked Okalova went up against Evelyne Tiron at the No. 2 singles position. In the first set, Okalova broke Tiron three separate times, on her way to a 6-0 first set victory. Okalova breezed through the second set with another 6-0 victory. Okalova improved to 8-1 on the year and gave Tulsa a 2-0 lead. 

At the No. 4 position, Matoula squared off with Cardoso. In the first stanza, Matoula broke Cardoso's serve three times, as she took the first set, 6-3. Matoula distanced herself in the second set, as she rolled to a 6-1 victory. Matoula is now 6-1 in dual singles matches. The Hurricane lead was extended to 3-0.

Tamara Kupkova took the opening frame, 6-1, against Jessica Cortez Chaves at the No. 3 spot. Kupkova ran away with a 6-2 victory in the second set. Kupkova's victory clinched the match for the Golden Hurricane and put TU up, 4-0. Kupkova improved to 6-2 in dual match singles play. 

Laskutova extended the Tulsa lead to 5-0, as she swept Ana Roman Dominguez, 6-2 and 6-2, in the No. 1 singles match. Laskutova is now 10-2 on the season in dual singles competition. 

Nicole Dzenga stopped the Hurricane shutout bid, as she beat Alexandrina Chinikova in the No. 6 spot, 4-6, 6-4, and 10-4. The third set was a super tiebreaker due to the overall match already having a decision. 

Ploner won the opening set of the No. 5 singles match against Klaric, 7-5. Klaric took the second, 4-6, and forced a third set. In the super tiebreaker, Klaric jumped out to a 7-5 lead. Ploner was resilient as she stormed back and took the set, 10-8. Ploner is 6-4 in dual matches and gave TU a 6-1 victory. 

Tulsa is currently on a six-match winning streak and improves to 11-2 on the season. The Golden Hurricane returns to action on Saturday, March 3, as the Oklahoma Sooners come to Case Tennis Center. First serves are scheduled for 12 p.m.
