Tulsa Fell to No. 26 Arizona State, 4-1

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Joshua Goodger collected the only point for the Golden Hurricane, as he defeated the Sun Devils' Makey Rakotomalala in the No. 2 singles match. Tulsa (10-11) fell to No. 26 Arizona State (10-5), 4-1, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge presented by Oracle.

Michael Geerts and Tim Ruehl defeated Majed Kilani and Lucca Baptista in the No. 1 doubles match, 6-3. Thomas Wright and William Kirkman beat Goodger and Boriss Kamdem in the No. 3 match, 6-4. The Sun Devils held a 1-0 lead as the match headed to singles play.

Arizona State extended its lead to 2-0 when Wright swept Louis Corker in the No. 5 singles match, 6-1 and 6-3.

The No. 71 ranked Goodger eased to a 6-4 opening set victory in the No. 2 singles match against Rakotomalala. In the second set, Goodger felt less resistance on his way to a 6-3 victory in the second stanza. Goodger improved to 13-4 in dual singles matches and pulled the Hurricane within one for the overall match, 2-1.

The Sun Devils went on to take the next two points, to win the match, 4-1. The No. 65 ranked Geerts defeated the No. 118 ranked Kilani, 6-4 and 6-3, at the No. 1 position. Andrea Bolla bested Mitchell Pritchard in the No. 4 spot, 6-2 and 6-4.

With the loss, Tulsa falls to 10-11 on the season. The Golden Hurricane returns to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden tomorrow for a matchup with No. 29 Baylor in the third-place match of the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge. The match time will be announced later.
