Tulsa Women Golfers Begin Chase for The American Championship on Sunday

PALM COAST, Fla. – The Tulsa women's golf team will tee-off Sunday morning at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Golf Championship beginning at 7:30 a.m. The 54-hole event will run through Tuesday with 18 holes each day at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida.

Tulsa will be playing its fifth consecutive tournament with just four golfers, due to injury. Juniors Olivia Jackson, Nicole Marquardt, Johanna Samuelsson and Anneke Strobach comprise Tulsa's 4-player roster.

Since joining a conference in 1993-94, the Missouri Valley Conference, Golden Hurricane golf teams have won 12 conference championships in 24 seasons. The last league title came in 2012 when the Hurricane captured the Conference USA Championship. Tulsa won all three MVC titles, seven of nine conference crowns in the Western Athletic Conference and two Conference USA titles in nine years as a league member.

In the previous three years as an American Athletic Conference member, Tulsa had two consecutive 9th place performances and last year finished in 5th place.

Tulsa is coming off of a seventh place finish at the Dale McNamara Invitational where the Hurricane carded rounds of 307-299-305 for a 911 total at the two-day, 54-hole event. Individually, Olivia Jackson finished in 8th place shooting rounds of 72, 69 and 76 for a 7-over par 217 total, while Johanna Samuelsson placed in a 9th place tie with a total of 218 after rounds of 76-72-70.

Samuelsson leads the Hurricane this year with a 74.3 stroke average in 25 rounds, followed by Olivia Jackson's 75.9 stroke average. Samuelsson is coming off of two straight top-15 performances, while Jackson has finished among the top-20 in each of the last two tournaments.
