Tulsa’s Varsity 8+ Named American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week

Tulsa's Varsity 8+ collected its first Boat of the Week for the Golden Hurricane on Monday, after picking up first place and second place, respectively, in its two races at the Sunshine State Invitational.
 
On Friday, the grouping of Sam Barber, Helen Leigh, Ellie Russell, Lucy Coleman, Veronique Ulrich, Lauren Vander Hoeven, Paige Hallam, Sophia Camara and Hannah Vissers topped the eight-boat, 2000m regatta at Nathan Benderson Park. With a light crosswind, the Golden Hurricane timed in at 6:26.90, more than five seconds ahead of fellow conference squad UCF in second place and nine seconds faster than third-place Clemson. On Saturday, the Varsity 8+ took second in the same eight-team field, this time finishing less than a second behind winning squad UCF at 6:25.42. That time still bettered third-place Miami by more than seven seconds.
 
Tulsa will compete again this coming weekend at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
