Tulsa’s Lightweight 2x Wins Heat and Advance to Grand Final

6/2/2018 9:25:00 AM | Rowing

Sophia Camara and Lucy Coleman raced their Double to a top time in Heat 2 to advance to tomorrow's Grand Final at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Lightweight National Championship at Mercer Lake in Princeton, N.J.

The TU tandem recorded a time of 7:42.786 to lead their Heat, while Wisconsin was just over six seconds back with a time of 7:49.026.  Stanford (7:52.437) and Radcliffe (8:22.267) rounded out their Heat.  With their finish, Camara and Coleman advance straight to the Grand Final on Sunday at 7:00 am Central.

"Lucy and Sophia raced really well today," Head Coach Kevin Harris said.  "I thought they looked solid through the 1,000-meter mark and they were able to settle in to a good rhythm all the way through. The goal was to have the afternoon off and not have to advance through the Repechage and they did that.  Tomorrow is going to be tough competition and the weather will be a factor, but we are looking forward to getting after it in the final."

Princeton also advanced straight to the Grand Final in Heat 1, while MIT, Boston and Georgetown will face Wisconsin, Stanford and Radcliffe in the Repechage to determine the remaining Grand Final field later today.
