The University of Tulsa Rowers Earn Multiple Academic Accolades

The University of Tulsa rowers earned multiple academic accolades recently, including nine tabbed as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athletes, four selected to the CRCA All-Conference Team and one named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District VII Team presented by CoSIDA.
"I know I sound like a broken record, but I am really proud of the team and the way they handle themselves as student-athletes," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "Tulsa rowers have a great work ethic and it is great to see them recognized for it."
The CRCA Scholar Athletes must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, rowed in at least 75-percent of the current spring races or at a conference event, and maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. This season Sam Barber, Colleen Giesbrecht, Julia Herrel, Madeline Lyons, Sydney Pirkle, Ellie Russell, Veronique Ulrich, Elisa Vandersloot and Hannah Vissers were named as Scholar Athletes. Giesbrecht, Lyons and Vissers are all three-time selections, earning the honors as sophomores and juniors as well.
Barber, Helen Leigh, Russell and Vissers were tabbed to the Division I All-Conference Team, which replaces the previous All-Region award given by the CRCA. This award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each Division I rowing conference. These athletes, along with others who compete at the NCAA Championships, will be eligible for 2018 All-America awards selected later this month.
Senior rower Stephanie Call was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District VII Team presented by CoSIDA, as announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Call, who was tabbed to the first team and is an automatic nominee for All-America accolades voted on in mid-June, maintained a 4.0 GPA in chemical engineering.
