Tulsa Promotes Chris Nerio to Position of Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Health and Performance

TULSA, Okla. –– Chris Nerio, a 14-year veteran of The University of The University of Tulsa's sports medicine staff, has been named the school's assistant athletics director for student-athlete health and performance and director of sports medicine. His main sport responsibility is with the football program.
 
Nerio replaced Dave Polanski who took the head athletic trainers position for the University of Arkansas' football program.
 
Nerio served as associate director of sports medicine for the past four years (2015-18), working with football and women's golf. Before that, he was an assistant athletic trainer for 10 years, assuming that role in July 2005.
 
Before coming to Tulsa, Nerio was the head athletic trainer for the Rhein Fire, an NFL Europe team, in Germany. He also served as an athletic training intern for the Kansas City Chiefs, a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Tulsa, and a student athletic trainer at Oklahoma State University.  
 
He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Oklahoma Athletic Trainer's Association, where he served as treasurer from 2010 to 2017. Nerio made a significant contribution as collaborator for a recent published article in the Journal of the American Medical Association titled: Relationship of Collegiate Football Experience and Concussion With Hippocampal Volume and Cognitive Outcomes
 
Nerio earned his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State in 2001 and his master's degree from Tulsa in 2003.
 
He and his wife, Jill, have three children: daughters Brooklyn and Raegan and son Jamison.
