Tulsa Volleyball’s Thorson Earns AAC Weekly Honor Roll Bid

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa volleyball senior Emily Thorson has earned an American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll nod, the conference announced on Monday.
The honor comes after her offensive showcase at Tulsa's home tournament this past weekend, the Tulsa Volleyball Invitational. Thorson tallied 55 kills on a .244 hitting percentage for the weekend. She posted a season-high 27 kills in a 3-2 win over Abilene Christian on Friday.
In TU's second match of the tournament, Thorson accumulated 12 kills on a .278 hitting percentage, to go along with two service aces. In the final match of the Tulsa Volleyball Invitational, she managed 16 kills and eight digs in a win over cross-town rival Oral Roberts.
Currently, Thorson is fourth in the American in kills per set, racking up a 3.59 average so far in 2018.
As a team, the Golden Hurricane went a perfect 3-0 in its home tournament, defeating Abilene Christina, Northwestern State and ORU. The Golden Hurricane put two on the all-tournament team in Taylor Horsfall and Rachel Moore. Moore was named tournament MVP for her efforts.
Up next, Tulsa travels to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for a weekend at the Marquette Invitational. The Hurricane square off with Illinois State (7-2) on Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. and host Marquette (7-2) at 1 p.m. CT.
