FAYETTEVILLE,
Ark. – The University of Tulsa track and field team got the new year off to a convincing start, taking home nine top-five finishes in a packed field at the indoor Arkansas Invitational on Friday.

Two second-place finishes highlighted the day for the Golden Hurricane, beginning with Bailey Stewart in the men's 400 meters, running a 48.39 for second. Not to be outdone, thrower Aleks Rapp managed a toss of 18.77 meters (61-7 feet) to earn silver in the weight throw.

Redshirt-freshman Scott Beattie made a splash in the mile, going 4:09.18 to pace the Golden Hurricane for third overall. Also taking third, newcomer Jaidyn McCallon made an impressive showing in the women's 400 meters, running the race in 56.11. In the same race, Ca'Purnika Galbert went 58.23 to put two Tulsa athletes inside the top-five.

Senior thrower Baylor Reese managed bronze in the weight throw, throwing 15.13 meters (49-7.75 feet) in the only women's field event of the meet for TU. In the women's 1,000 meters, Sabrina Monsees ran a gutsy 2:52.67 for fourth overall in the packed race.

On the men's side of the 1,000 meters, Robert Tully earned fifth overall in 2:29.07 to crack yet another top-five placing for head coach Steve Gulley.

TU gets a week off from competition, before resuming action at the Pittsburg State Invitational on Jan. 26. The meet will mark the second of three total visits in the indoor season to the Gorillas' indoor facility.
