TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis team was ranked No. 23 in the latest Oracle ITA national team rankings, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Sitting at 5-1 overall, head coach Dean Orford's squad will test its mettle against three of the nation's top-25 teams at the ITA Kick-Off tournament this weekend, in which Tulsa will compete on the campus of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
At the Northwestern regional, the Golden Hurricane will face off with No. 17 Miami on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. Depending on the outcome, TU will play No. 22 UCF or No. 20 Northwestern in either the championship match or a consolation match.
The winners of the single-elimination event advance to next month's ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships.
So far in 2019, Tulsa has managed five wins in six matches, highlighted by a perfect 3-0 record in the team's home tournament, the Hurricane Invite. TU's only setback came to a talented No. 10 ranked Oklahoma State team, in which the Cowgirls defeated the Golden Hurricane, 6-1.
