TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa volleyball team concludes a four-game homestand this weekend, as the Golden Hurricane welcome sunshine state foes USF and UCF to Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane (11-8, 4-2 The American) are set to host the Bulls (7-13, 1-5) on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by the Knights (12-6, 5-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Friday's match against USF is the ninth all-time meeting between the two programs. Tulsa traveled to South Florida last year and defeated the Bulls in four sets. The Golden Hurricane hold a 5-3 lead in the all-time series.
USF has currently lost its last five conference matches, including the last four in four sets. The Bulls were voted to finish sixth in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
USF is led by head coach Courtney Draper, who is in her eighth season atop the helm. A year ago, USF went 20-12 overall and advanced to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. It was the first season since 2002 that the Bulls won at least 20 contests in a season or clinched a postseason berth.
Sunday marks the 20th contest in program history between the Golden Hurricane and Knights. Tulsa holds a 12-7 advantage in the series, but has lost four of five to UCF.
The Knights were picked to repeat as conference champions, after going 27-4 overall and a perfect 18-0 in conference play last season. UCF is on a three-game winning streak, and stands second in the eastern division.
Todd Dagenais is in his 12th season as the Knight's head coach. He has guided UCF to two American Conference Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. He was named The American Coach of the Year in 2018, while outside hitter McKenna Melville was named Freshman of the Year.
Tickets for all home volleyball matches this year are $5.00 for general admission seating. A group price of $3.00 per ticket for a minimum of 15 persons is available by calling 918.631.GoTU (4688).
