NORMAN, Okla. - The Tulsa women's tennis team secured three berths between the singles and doubles main draws for the round of 32 on Friday at the 2019 ITA Central Regional Championships. The championships, which are being hosted by Oklahoma and played at the Headington Family Tennis Center, feature 30 teams from across the region.
Freshman Laia Conde Monfort clinched a spot in the singles main draw, as she came from behind to defeat the fifth seed and 53rd-ranked Martina Zerulo of Arkansas 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. She picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Oral Robert's Ivana Babic in her opening round match.
In doubles play, sophomore Megan Hopton and Conde Monfort captured their first win of the season, as they upset the 12th-seed from Minnesota. They defeated Cammy Frei and Ekin Ercetin, 8-4. Top-seeded Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner advanced to the round of 32 with an 8-2 win over Berta Masdevall Masip and Pornpawee Pramethong of Arkansas State.
