
Horsfall Clinches Sixth Defensive Player of the Week Honor This Season

TULSA, Okla. — For the second consecutive week and sixth time this season, the University of Tulsa's Taylor Horsfall was named the American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The conference has recognized the senior defensive specialist/libero for her performance on the court on 10 occasions throughout the 2019 campaign. In addition, she has now received this award 10 times throughout her career at TU.
A native of Houston, Texas, Horsfall averaged 8.62 digs per set over the weekend for a total of 69 digs. She recorded 30+ digs against Memphis and SMU. Horsfall has now posted 30+ digs in three straight contests, and seven total matches this year.
She started the week helping the Golden Hurricane (15-12, 8-6 The American) to a four-set win against Memphis [25-19, 25-27, 25-22, 25-21]. She tallied 36 digs for the second consecutive contest, to go with a kill, a service ace, and three assists. On Senior Day vs. SMU, she chipped in 33 digs, to go with four assists and a service ace in four sets played.
Horsfall ranks third in Division I and leads The American in digs per set (6.13) and total digs (642). She is one of five liberos in the nation with 600+ digs this year. Her 642 digs are the fourth-most in a single campaign, as well as her second-highest dig total in a season. She also ranks fifth in the league in service aces per set (0.34) and total service aces (35).
The Golden Hurricane wrap up the regular season this weekend. They play at Wichita State on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a trip to Cincinnati on Sunday for a 12 noon match. Following this weekend's contests, the Golden Hurricane will head to Orlando for the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The conference tournament will start on Friday, Nov. 22, at The Venue at UCF, on the campus of UCF.
